THANK YOU

A month ago quite a few of you were tired and elated – the result of helping to deliver a very successful, but demanding World Masters Orienteering Champs.
Despite the need for extended periods of concentration, and the requirement for silent starts preventing the usual friendly interaction between organisers and competitors, most people I have spoken to really enjoyed their volunteering stint. They found it rewarding to be part of such a large international event and to interact with the overseas competitors and other volunteers (from within orienteering and from outside the sport).
Having seen how a large international event is run, and felt the vibe from being a part of such an event, I understand that even more NSW orienteers are now considering competing in Europe.
On behalf of the Orienteering Association of New South Wales I would like to add my thanks to those of Nick Dent and the rest of the organising teams to all the orienteers (and family and non-orienteers!) who gave up their time to make WMOC such a fantastic showcase of Australian orienteering and hospitality.
I would also like to thank Nick, his organising committee and the team leaders for all of their hard work and dedication in achieving such a great result. Below are some of the notes of appreciation received by Nick Dent after the conclusion of the World Masters. Everyone involved should feel justifiably proud of having a hand in the event’s success.

“Just wanted to say how much we enjoyed WMOC. Thanks and congratulations to you and all your team for a really great week” - Australian orienteer
“I’d like to thank you and your team for all yours and their efforts. It was a pleasant change to be on the “other side of the fence” for a change. From that position it seemed everything went well (I am aware of some little issues but for the most part, the majority would be unaware). “ - Australian orienteer
“ Congratulations on your work and result with the event. Apart from the weather it was an outstanding success and you are to be personally complimented. The Orienteering certainly brought many visitors to the area and was most beneficial to this district. I was pleased to assist as a volunteer at the control centre in Lithgows and the event at Ben Bullen and enjoyed the experience. Once again congratulations on a job well done.” - Lithgow volunteer
“I just wanted to say thanks very much to you and your team for a great WMOC event at Lithgow. “ - Australian orienteer
“Thanks for your great efforts. It was a great competition!” - Australian orienteer
“Again a big thank to you for the organisation of that very wonderful event in the Blue Mountains. “ - Swiss Orienteers
“Congratulations to you and your team for what many saw as an outstanding Sprint event at both venues and thank you for the many hours of hard work for the benefit of us old-timers. The organisation was magnificent” - Australian orienteer
“Many thanks for your excellent competitions. I am glad, that I participated in spite of my injury.” - Swedish orienteer
“Thank you for WMOC2009 !” - Finnish orienteer
“Well done on WMOC - sensational event.” - Australian orienteer
“really enjoyed the sprints, longer events were a bit tough for me as I had a cold. Also enjoyed the social activities that had been organised.” - UK orienteer
“I enjoyed sprints in Sydney as the classic competitions near Lithgow / Ilford. Thank you for the great work! - Ueli Hofstetter (1954)”
